SUPERCOAT™
All windows and windshields are post-coated with our proprietary SUPERCOAT™. We apply our coating after the polycarbonate has been formed giving it the highest level of abrasion-resistance on the market. Our coating has a UV protectant as well as solvent and chemical resistance. Our coating is done in a 3,500 Sq. Ft. Class 10,000 environment clean room with multiple coating lines &processes. You can still use your wipers with our windows and clean without worry!
Our History
FORM/TEC Plastics began in 1975. A family business started by William and Jacki Shields. FORM/TEC began making their patented Silhouette Fairing System for motorcycles. This acrylic fairing was an immediate success, forever changing the motorcycle windscreen field. Using years of experience, FORM/TEC expanded from forming acrylic parts (for all types of industry) and general forming of all plastics, to include the forming of polycarbonate optically correct. Polycarbonate, the world’s strongest optical plastic, is difficult to work with (to form optically correct) and the surface readily scratches. To address both issues, FORM/TEC introduced their SHIELDS® line of optically formed polycarbonate, protected with their exclusive SUPERCOAT™ hard-coat. The combination of strength and clarity with abrasion and chemical resistance levels near that of glass make SHIELDS® windshields highly demanded.
SHIELDS® products are used in many industries from lightweight face shields to 3/4″ monolithic windshields. SHIELDS® products can be found worldwide serving the needs to customers that demand optical quality, protection, innovation engineering, and satisfying customer service.
In January of 2014, Brad Shields was named President and Karen Shields was named Finance Manager.
Product Design was established by William and Jacki Shields. Product design was an innovative company diving into the plastic industry. The Silhouette Fairing was an acrylic fairing for the motorcycle industry.
The company expands into the name Form/Tec Plastics. Form/Tec expanded its products into general vacuum forming all plastics. This included optically correct polycarbonate.
The company expanded again with a new product line, SHIELDS®. SHIELDS® Windshields Product line addresses the forming and coating of polycarbonate. Using our exclusive SUPERCOAT™.
Brad Shields was named President after spearheading and leading the development and launch of the SHIELDS® Product line.
Owner Jacki Shields retires after thirty-nine years of running the company with her husband, Bill. Jacki is still active in the community and with gatherings of the company.
The spring of 2016, Karen Shields was named Vice president of Finance.
Fall of 2016, SHIELDS® Designs was born as an extension of SHIELDS® Windshields. Designs was created to broaden product offering and expand our marketplace. This expansion included three new lasers, two for part marking and a third is a Class IV 120″ table for larger products.
Spring of 2017, The company took on a building expansion, tripling our capacity. This growth added a third five axis router and a class 10,000 environment controlled clean room.
January of 2018 Owner, William Shields passed away. He was surrounded by his family and his legacy remains in his family and company.
AlyxaKay McKee , the 3rd generation of the SHIELDS family joins the company. Currently the Director. Joining Rob McKee her husband who became Head of Engineering in 2018
August 2023, we launched our very own podcast. This podcast is about our family business. We are polycarbonate manufacturer coming up on 50 years of business. Owned and operated by the same family we talk about our products, our history, stories of how we became who we are and more. You get to know the owners and those who run the place!
SHIELDS adds final building addition to production at their current location. Adding two more CNC machines to their line up.
2024 – In September, SHIELDS was selected for the US Chamber of Commerce top 100 small businesses in America 2024. The family will be representing the company in DC in October to be recognized for this achievement. The company was selected for the top 10 Enduring Businesses.
March 2025, SHIELDS® Caulk was introduced as the first companion product of the SHIELDS® line. In April, AlyxaKay McKee, the 3rd generation of the SHIELDS family, was promoted to Vice President of Operations. In December, Cody McFarland was promoted to Head of Production and Melissa Dillon to Head of Marketing. In November, SHIELDS® was played on episode 405 of World’s Greatest Television. In November, SHIELDS® celebrated its 50th Anniversary.
April 2026, SHIELDS® officially launched its SHIELDS® Canada distributor line. In May, SHIELDS® Seal was developed and launched on select skid steers as the first ½” gasket available on the market.
Glass VS Polycarbonate
Using formed polycarbonate gives you many advantages over standard glass. Polycarbonate is ½ the weight of glass, 250x stronger than glass, can fit standard and custom cabs and enclosures and more.

Installation and Care
The proprietary UV and Abrasion Resistant surface coating on SHIELDS® SUPERCOATED™ polycarbonate significantly improves performance. Periodic cleaning using proper procedures and compatible cleaners are recommended to prolong service life.
Processing Capabilities
At SHIELDS® our 45,000 + Sg. Ft facility houses all our processes. Our capabilities vary from engineering, thermoforming, and multi- axis routers for best quality and customer service. All sales and marketing are done in house as well.
